Writing Love Letters to Yourself:  A Writing Class as Self-Care

presented by Nik Shier

Everyone's telling you to love yourself less.  Or to love yourself more.  Or that self-care is more than bubble baths, but you don't even have a bathtub. Or you finally have a bathtub, and it's the best!  But what does "more than bubble baths" even mean?

In this class, we will sit down together and map out what "more" can mean and use that information to get to know, really know, the best parts of ourselves.

Join Nik Shier of HeartBrain (www.heartbrain.org) for this "get to know yourself (again) workshop."

Hooray! The 2024 Madison Print & Resist Zinefest! Join dozens of regional artists, writers, print-makers and advocates for a day-long festival of transformative, and transgressive DIY publishing and printmaking. Various makers will be present and be ready to share their work with the Madison area community.

Drop in throughout the day to see their work and learn more about this long-standing art form. The event is free to attend and open to the public, keeping in mind that artists will not be censored and some content may not be suitable for children.

Additionally, there will be hands-on printing and making projects happening in the Bubbler Room with our current Artist-in-Residence, Grace Olson, throughout the event.

Madison Print & Resist will comply with all public health recommendations active on the date of the event, even if not mandated at the time, there will be strong encouragement for social distancing and masking to ensure the highest level of safety for vendors.

The Best of Video Poetry 2024

The Best of Video Poetry 2024

Community Room
Saturday, Apr 27, 2024, 1:30pm to 4:00pm

Arts + Literature Laboratory is proud to present some of our favorite video poems featured in the first four years of the Midwest Video Poetry Fest. The festival, which invites audiences to discover (or rediscover) poetry, is the first of its kind in Wisconsin. These films, selected specifically for Hawthorne Public Library, include short video poems from around the world, as well as work from regional and local artists. These works are funny, inspiring, heartbreaking, thought-provoking, and timely. The creators of the festival will be on hand to talk about what video poetry is, provide tips on how to make your own, talk about the films themselves, and answer questions.

About Our Lead Curators:

Genia Daniels is a long-time Madison resident involved in multiple art forms. She is a founding board member of Arts + Literature Laboratory (ALL).

Rita Mae Reese is a Co-director of ALL. An animated video from the title poem of her first book, The Alphabet Conspiracy, was showcased at the Association of Independent Commercial Producers Midwest Trade Show.
