Movement Exploration

Caregivers and children (5 & under) are invited to come and play together in a movement friendly environment. Different play areas will be set up each week to encourage crawling, hanging, climbing, balancing and more. This is a facilitated open play environment where kids are encouraged to explore the space, navigate challenges and move their bodies with support from their caregiver.

Read to a Dog

Read aloud to Libby, a certified therapy dog from Alliance Therapy Dogs. Reading to an attentive, non-judgmental audience is a great way for young people to build fluency, and being with a pet has many other proven health benefits.
This program is first-come, first-serve, so drop in at any time. Bring books from home, or pick them out from the library.
This program is recommended for ages 5 and up.

Our friendly, experienced writing coaches are happy to help with writing projects across a wide range of genres, including resumes, cover letters, application essays, grant proposals, fiction writing, memoirs, and more.

Join other youth and families for a movie showing of Vivo (2021) on Hawthorne’s big screen. The library's LEGO collection will also be available to play with while you watch! We have plenty of LEGOs to share, so please no personal LEGOs.
The film will start promptly at 4:00pm.

Join local artist and creator Lexie Olson for a merchandising workshop series for teens this spring! Participants will learn to use Procreate illustration software to design and create a variety of merch products - buttons, stickers, t-shirts and more - with a focus on finding artistic voice and building a strong brand.
