In 1980s England, schoolboys Will Proudfoot (Bill Milner) and Lee Carter (Will Poulter) meet by chance in a hallway. Pop-Up Art: Songbird Watercolor for All Ages

*In Sequoya Library
Thursday, Mar 21, 2024, 4:00pm to 6:00pm

Come celebrate our local songbirds through watercolor with current Sequoya library artist, Katherine Moore! Materials to paint birds will be on hand and we will decorate the library with our beautiful creations. This is a drop in activity in the kids section of the library, and all ages (including adults) and abilities are welcome!

This event coincides with the Nature's Delights: Madison's Urban Ecology art exhibit at the Sequoya Library by Katherine Moore of Lost Feather Studio. The show runs from March 4 through May, 2024.

Artist Statement: The richness of the urban ecology in Madison never ceases to surprise me. Finding owl tracks in the fresh snow, a heart-shaped lichen, or a fish tail a mile from Lake Wingra leaves me full of awe and wonder. They remind me that despite our parking lots and stoplights and noise, the magical delights of nature abound. My art attempts to capture and share the beautiful moments happening right outside our front door.

About River Food Pantry & Munch Truck

Launched in 2016, Munch is our mobile meals program that delivers free healthy meals to children and adults in over a dozen low-income neighborhoods throughout Madison. Each meal contains a sandwich or main menu item, a fruit or vegetable, a grain, a treat, and a drink. Everyone is welcome to take home a free meal. No registration or ID is required.

Neighborhoods served by Munch have large populations of children eligible for free school lunch. To bridge the gap that exists when school lunch is not available, Munch operates up to 6 days per week, Monday–Saturday, any time school cafeterias are closed (including breaks and periods of remote learning).

For any questions or comments, please contact the Munch staff at munch@riverfoodpantry.org or (608) 661-1223.

Join us for a mystery book group discussion of "What Never Happened" by Rachel Howzell Hall. Books are available at the library. New members always welcome!

"Colette “Coco” Weber has relocated to her Catalina Island home, where, twenty years before, she was the sole survivor of a deadly home invasion. All Coco wants is to see her aunt Gwen, get as far away from her ex as possible, and get back to her craft―writing obituaries. Thankfully, her college best friend, Maddy, owns the local paper and has a job sure to keep Coco busy, considering the number of elderly folks who are dying on the island.

But as Coco learns more about these deaths, she quickly realizes that the circumstances surrounding them are remarkably similar…and not natural. Then Coco receives a sinister threat in the mail: her own obituary.

As Coco begins to draw connections between a serial killer’s crimes and her own family tragedy, she fears that the secrets on Catalina Island might be too deep to survive. Because whoever is watching her is hell-bent on finally putting her past to rest." -- Amazon.com
