Free assistance from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers to help you fill out and file your Federal and Wisconsin personal income taxes. Call 608-266-6350 no earlier than January 24, 2024 to make an appointment (required).

The VITA program is an IRS and Wisconsin DOR initiative designed to support free tax preparation service for the underserved. The VITA program offers free tax help to people who generally make $56,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

Some situations are outside the scope of the service -- ask if in doubt. You must have lived in Wisconsin for ALL of 2023 to use this service.

All Central Library appointments will be on SATURDAYS: 2/10, 2/17, 2/24, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 4/6

**We will begin taking appointments on Wednesday, January 24th for the February (2/10, 2/17, 2/24) tax help dates. We will take appointments for March and April dates (3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 4/6) on February 21st. **

For people interested in a wide variety of roleplaying games that are out there, waiting to be discovered,  including traditional roleplaying games such as Original D&D, 1st Edition AD&D, Classic Traveller, Pendragon, and Call of Cthulhu, as well as retro-clones like Old School Essentials, Labyrinth Lord, Swords & Wizardry, and others.

We also play more contemporary RPGs such as Savage Worlds and GURPS, as well as games like Beyond the Wall, Torchbearer, Powered By The Apocalypse and FATE.

If you played any of these games in the past, or are COMPLETELY NEW to them, we're happy to have you come and play.

Practice speaking, reading, and writing English with Literacy Network. Beginning to intermediate students are welcome! 

Spring 2024 classes are January 27 - May 4, Saturdays, 10 am - 12 pm, in-person at Literacy Network, (701 Dane Street, Madison WI, 53713). The Literacy Network is across the street from the Goodman South Madison Public Library. March 9th and April 13th classes will meet at the Goodman South Library. 

This class is free for students 18 years old and up living in Dane County.

The first half will cultivate English-Chinese listening and speaking skills through books and songs, and the second half will be dedicated to a hands-on activity based on the story. Help make a portrait of Madison!

Engage in reflective artwork throughout this unique portrait-making project, Our Town Everywhere!  Drop-in on most Fridays (3-6pm) and Saturdays (11-2 pm) at the Pinney Library Studio to create stamped self-portraits or other community connection themed projects which will be shared and displayed across the Madison community.  All ages welcome, materials supplied, and local bilingual (Spanish / english) teaching artist Mindy will be there to guide and support your process.

Gente de todas edades también están invitados a participar en el proyecto de retratos Nuestra ciudad por todos lados, organizado por el Bubbler en el estudio de la biblioteca Pinney. Let’s take the confusion out of chocolate. You’ll learn the difference between a 50% and 70% chocolate and how that affects the products you use them in. We’ll sample a variety of chocolates from different companies with different percentages. Maybe you’ll even find a new favorite chocolate!

About the Presenter

Punky Egan earned the title of Certified Master Baker, one of less than 200 in the country, from the professional organization RBA (Retail Bakers of America). Through her 45-year professional baking career, she owned Sucré Patisserie and Dessert Lounge, was a consultant to the baking industry, and recipe developer. At Madison College, she was the director of the baking program as well as lead instructor. She co-authored 3 cookbooks, wrote baking articles for professional publications, created instructional baking videos for her baking students. She had a regular baking segment on a local TV station and was even on the Food Network!

Now the library is looking for volunteers to help with the hard part: packaging the seeds so library patrons can take them home! If you would like to donate your time and effort to this project, please register below!

Join us for Saturday Jazz! This month, we welcome Inside Pocket.

Inside Pocket is a jazz quartet based in Madison, Wisconsin. We perform standards, original compositions, hard bop, and contemporary jazz by Kenny Garrett, Pat Metheny, and others. We favor music with clearly stated melodies and a strong pulse. Music that moves you!

Jazz at Sequoya features local musicians on the third Saturday of every month. The series is generously funded by the Friends of Sequoya Library.
