This sale takes place at the Friends of Sequoya Bookshop, 6672 Odana Road.

On the first Saturday of each month, Friends of Sequoya Book Sales take place at our shop located at 6672 Odana Road in Market Square (next to Play-it-Again Sports). Some months also have a "bonus" sale on third Saturdays!

Masks are welcome but not required.

Engaging with books, songs and playful experiences all help children develop communication skills, patience, empathy, and pre-reading skills​ and helps to build a lifelong love of reading. Practice speaking, reading, and writing English with Literacy Network. Beginning to intermediate students are welcome! 

Spring 2024 classes are January 27 - May 4, Saturdays, 10 am - 12 pm, in-person at Literacy Network, (701 Dane Street, Madison WI, 53713). The Literacy Network is across the street from the Goodman South Madison Public Library. March 9th and April 13th classes will meet at the Goodman South Library. 

This class is free for students 18 years old and up living in Dane County.

Topics include using Google Maps, Transit, and other digital options; paper schedules and phone service; and discounted fare options. Metro employees will answer your questions about bus travel and provide one-on-one assistance in English and Spanish.

Legacy Boxes with Angela Johnson (Day 2)

Legacy Boxes offer a way to commemorate a special family member or event. Legacy Boxes are handmade, unique to each workshop attendee, and can be folded to sit on a shelf or display as a triptych. Attendees should bring small item/s and photo/s to add into the box; the dimension inside the box are about 1”.  Bring an open mind, flexibility and an idea of a person, project, or memory you would like to honor in your legacy box.

This is a 2 day workshop (2/2/23 FRIDAY and 2/3/23 SATURDAY) and registrants must commit to attend the entire sessions from 11 am - 3:00 pm on both days. Breaks will be included; please bring your own snacks and beverages. Registration begins 1/19/23 at 9am.

This workshop has been developed for an intended audience of older adults 60+.  Others welcome to register, space permitting.

This program is part of the Live Well @ Your Library initiative.

Help make a portrait of Madison!

Engage in reflective artwork throughout this unique portrait-making project, Our Town Everywhere!  Drop-in on most Fridays (3-6pm) and Saturdays (11-2 pm) at the Pinney Library Studio to create stamped self-portraits or other community connection themed projects which will be shared and displayed across the Madison community.  All ages welcome, materials supplied, and local bilingual (Spanish / english) teaching artist Mindy will be there to guide and support your process. 

Participar en arte reflexivo. Gente de todas edades también están invitados a participar en el proyecto de retratos Nuestra ciudad por todos lados, organizado por el Bubbler en el estudio de la biblioteca Pinney. Un artista hispanohablante local estará facilitando esta sesión del proyecto de Nuestra ciudad por todos lados.

Join The Kids Chef, Lily Kilfoy, for a series of cooking classes for school-age kids, tweens, and their families. Participants will learn about different foods, where they come from, how to follow recipes, and how to use a variety of tools.  Registration is not required, but participation will be limited to the first 25 attendees.

Madison Public Library invites you and your family to attend a mini photo session and receive a FREE of cost family portrait! Families and individuals can capture or commemorate this moment in time with their loved ones - bring along anyone you see as family (chosen family, special someones, aunties, etc.). 

Each family will receive:

  • A 10-minute photo session with Hedi LaMarr Rudd, professional photographer
  • A digital copy of their family portrait

Keep in Mind:

  • Limited to one registration per group.
  • No library card is required.
  • Space is limited and will go fast - reserve your session ASAP!
  • The turnaround time on receiving your digital images is about 2 weeks.
  • Photos are for personal use only. Please refrain from bringing props, logos, or other items for promotional purposes.
  • Please note that it is against Madison Public Library's Behavior Policy to bring any animal into the library except service animals.

BIPOC families are especially encouraged to register, but all families are welcome. 

Registration opens two weeks prior, on Jan 20th at 2pm. 

If no spots remain and you would like to be placed on a waitlist for Hawthorne Library's dates ONLY, please email your name, phone number, and group size to jhavens@madisonpubliclibrary.org.

Nosotros queremos proporcionar acceso a fotografías de alta calidad para todos los miembros de la comunidad.

Cada familia recibirá:

Una sesión de fotografías de 10 minutos con la fotógrafa local Hedi Rudd.

Una copia digital de su retrato familiar.

El evento está limitado a una sola inscripción por grupo.

El tiempo de entrega para recibir sus imágenes digitales es de aproximadamente dos semanas.

About the photographer:

Hedi is currently the Director of Badger Rock Neighborhood Center, a project of Rooted whose mission is collaborations rooted in food, land, and learning. An avid photographer and writer, her work has been featured in UMOJA Magazine, Capital City Hues, Madison365, Love Madison and other local publications. Hedi is the 2019 recipient of the Forward Community Investments Nan Cheney March for Justice Awards, the Madison Black Chamber and Madison Hip-Hop Awards Photographer of the year. Hedi is also a proud alumnus of the UW Madison Odyssey Project and WARF’s Upstart Program and is an active member of the Community Shares of Wisconsin Board.
