Nehemiah Center for Urban Leadership Development fosters emerging leaders in the African American community and offers programming for youth, men reentering the community after incarceration and neighborhood economic development. The Brown Bookshelf is designed to push awareness of the myriad of African American voices writing for young readers. Their flagship initiative is 28 Days Later, a month-long showcase of the best in Picture Books, Middle Grade and Young Adult novels written and illustrated by African Americans.
Racial Equity Tools is designed to support individuals and groups working to achieve racial equity. This site offers tools, research, tips, curricula and ideas for people who want to increase their own understanding and to help those working toward justice at every level – in systems, organizations, communities and the culture at large.
The Jane Addams Children's Book Awards are given annually to the children's books published the preceding year that effectively promote the cause of peace, social justice, world community, and the equality of the sexes and all races as well as meeting conventional standards for excellence.
The YWCA's central goals are supporting women and eliminating racism by providing housing, job training and support and education programs on racial and gender equity. Their website features a wealth of links to organizations, videos, articles and even an online racial justice class.
