Looking to build your confidence in navigating today's digital landscape? Madison Public Library is partnering with DaneNet to host six free classes in September and October 2025 that will give older adults the knowledge they need to get started online. 

You can register for classes individually or take the entire course to build upon what you learn each week. 

Note: You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own devices to these classes. If you do not have a laptop to bring for computer-focused classes, one will be provided for you.

September 8: Computer Basics 

The Computer Basics course is tailored for adults seeking to build a solid foundation in computer skills. Participants will learn the parts of a computer, how to turn their device on and off, navigate files and folders. 

September 15: Email Basics

The Email Basics course is designed for adults looking to enhance their digital communication skills. Participants will learn how to create, send, and manage emails effectively, as well as understand email etiquette and security practices.

September 22: Avoiding Scams

In today’s tech-driven world, the internet enhances communication, learning, and entertainment but also exposes users to online scams. DANEnet’s cybersecurity class focuses on protecting your personal information—identity, data, and finances—online.

September 29: Android Phone Basics

Smartphones are often a person’s most-used and most convenient tool for accessing the internet, but do you know how to make the best use of all the features, settings, and capabilities of your device? This class will share tips for making the most of your Android smartphones! 

October 6: Photo Storage and Management

Do you have a digital mountain of photos on your phone/computer and feel overwhelmed by the thought of organizing them? This class will teach participants simple steps to consolidate, sort, and manage your photo collection.

October 13: Protecting Your Digital Legacy

We prepare for so many possibilities – from severe weather to medical emergencies and so much more. While we insure ourselves against many potential risks, one piece is often overlooked: protecting our digital presence. Learn what steps to take today to give yourself peace of mind in the future.
