Madison Public Library is celebrating Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) at two library locations this winter with the help of local Mexican folk artist Andrea Muñiz! On Saturday, November 1, you can visit Meadowridge Library or Goodman South Madison Library for an all-ages, bilingual celebration where we'll honor loved ones who have passed away.

Attendees are invited to add their own artwork and family photos to the community altar, participate in arts and craft activities, and sample refreshments like Mexican hot chocolate and sweet bread.

Throughout the event, families can help make tissue paper banners to hang around the library, sample Mexican hot chocolate and sweet bread, explore a collection of painted ceramic skulls, and try their hand at digitizing old materials like photos, then printing them out to add them to the community altar. Plus, enjoy these fun events:

  • 2-3pm: Bilingual storytime with a special Day of the Dead focus
  • 3-4pm: Day of the Dead-themed lotería created by artist Andrea Munoz
  • 4-5pm: Cempasúchil flower (Mexican marigold) painting
