A review of The Librarians by

Thomas

Sherry Thomas' new mystery is set in a public library in Austin, TX and you can probably guess how that was instant literary catnip for me. And what high quality catnip it is - like fresh from the garden, smells wonderful, catnip.

Hazel Lee has left a scandal behind in Singapore and taken a job in a quiet branch library in Texas. She's determined to keep her head down, keep to herself, and just do the job. But soon enough she is drawn into the personal dramas of her three colleagues, who have baggage of their own. Soon all of their lives become more complicated when two of the library's patrons are found dead and the police begin an investigation. In order to preserve her own safety Hazel starts her own investigation. But Hazel is not the only one who wants to keep the police at a distance and now they're a team of four looking for a killer.

I loved every bit of this mystery. Yes, it's set in a library, which of course, I'm going to enjoy. But it's also great character study, a solid mystery, and about a group of disparate people who find support in one another and create their own found family. Bookish catnip indeed.
