Computers at Central

Community Internet Locations | Internet at other Madison Public Library Locations

This page only has information about computer access specific to Central Library. For general information, including your rights as a computer user, please see the main Internet and Computer Access page.


All computers have Microsoft Office with the sit down time limit of 2 hours. 

  • Monday - Friday, 10am-5:45pm (beginning May 24, 2021)
  • Saturday, 12-4:45pm (beginning May 29, 2021)

Library computers are available on a first come, first served. See Internet and Computer Access page for information about making reservations or call 608-266-6300.

This location also offers one express computer workstation that cannot be reserved in advance and is held aside for walk-up access only. There is a sit down time limit of 30 minutes - first come, first served.

Patrons with Young Children

Computers are available in the Youth area (lower level).


Printing is available for a fee:

  • Black-and-white prints - .10 per page
  • Color prints - .50 per page


Scanning is available at this location by…

  • flatbed scanner station (beginning May 24, 2021)
  • Photocopier - scan to flash drive


There are two photocopiers (black-and-white prints only) available to the public located on 1st and 2nd floor. Cost is .10 per page.

Wireless Information

No security code is required for the unsecured wireless network.

Library Computers & COVID-19 Safety

Cleaning and Public Health

All staff working library computers receive training and the personal protective equipment necessary to keep themselves, other staff, and the public safe. Employees may wear a face covering according to City of Madison policy and Dane County Public Health Guidelines.

Guidelines for Safe Computer Use

  • Patrons and staff are not required to wear a face mask or covering, though mask-wearing is encouraged. A face mask will be available for those who ask for one upon entering. [See Madison and Dane County Public Health requirements on Masks/ Face Coverings]
  • Hand sanitizer is available.
  • Food is not allowed. Some locations will have a bottle-filling station.
  • Computers may not come with headphones. Patrons are welcome to bring their own, or ask to borrow a pair from library staff.
