Central Cinema Cinesthesia presents Candyman (1992).

Adapted from a short story by Clive Barker, Bernard Rose's landmark supernatural slasher movie tells a chilling tale of gentrification and generational trauma. While completing her thesis on urban legends and folklore, graduate student Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) learns about the "Candyman" (Tony Todd), a tormented spirit with a hook for a hand who is said to haunt Chicago's notorious Cabrini-Green housing project. Braving the gang-ridden territory to investigate the site, Helen assumes that Candyman can't really exist. But then he appears to her, igniting a string of grisly murders. As Helen becomes enthralled by this powerful myth and descends further into the rabbit hole, she begins to lose her grip on reality.

Hosted by Jason Fuhrman, Cinesthesia is an adventurous, eclectic series of classic and contemporary films that focuses on the complex relationship between literature and cinema. Cinesthesia strives to foster constructive dialogue, while breathing new life into controversial works, neglected masterpieces, and titles in the margins of film history.
