Modern day courting like Jane Austen

A review of That Can Be Arranged: A Muslim Love Story by Huda Fahmy

This is a sweet, authentic, and sublimely nerdy look at popular cartoonist Huda Fahmy's single life, courtship and marriage to the man of her dreams. By her mid-twenties Huda was considered hopelessly over-the-hill by many in her circle of friends and family. She felt pressured and discouraged, but not completely downhearted.

Then she unexpectedly meets her future husband at a conference. An introduction is made and a chaperoned courtship begins. Huda outlines what dating is like for a modern woman observing Muslim traditions and shares a few less than successful experiences on her way to true love. Huda's story is heartwarming and funny and not at all unlike a Jane Austen novel with regards to suitors, gossip, hovering Aunties, intrusive younger siblings, and societal expectations. An informative and entertaining read suitable for middle grades and up.
