The tenth app in their “explorer series,” this app gives users the opportunity to explore a coral reef. There’s plenty of opportunity for open-ended exploration in seven different areas (each featuring a different sea creature such as box jellyfish or seagrass). Once kids have had a chance to play around in each of the areas (choosing to use the labels or remove them), be sure to check out the very thorough handbook (available in the upper right corner of the homepage). It’s a PDF packed with lots of interesting facts about coral reefs (did you know that the gender of sea turtles is determined by the temperature of the water their eggs are hatched in?) and suggestions for play that your child may or may not have discovered on their own. With a calm, self-paced tempo and authentic sound effects (though I’m not convinced that the farting sounds of the parrotfish are 100% accurate--they are hilarious though!), this game is one your child will want to sink into and explore deeply.
