Chelsea Handler is growing into the best version of herself

Chelsea Handler is growing up and I appreciate this. It took Jane Fonda getting mad at her for being obnoxious at a dinner party and calling her out on it to wake her up. Sometimes that's what it takes.

I've been a fan of Chelsea's comedy for decades at this point. I've watched the shows, read the books, seen her perform live, all of it. The vodka schtick was getting old for me. While there's still a lot of that in her latest book, there's much, much more. The wild child who spiked the lemonade at her neighborhood lemonade stand has grown into an impressive businesswoman, loyal friend, admirable aunt, and extended family wrangler. She has standards and sticks to them. She shows up when she's needed and is confident enough to do the right thing when tough decisions must be made.

This latest comedy memoir is about Chelsea post-therapy, post-pandemic, and post-significant other breakups. She's truly becoming the woman she always wanted to be. She shares heartfelt and hilarious stories, some of which are outrageous, others that are eerily relatable. One of my favorite chapters includes a vacation etiquette letter she sent her nieces and nephews putting them on notice that unless they started showing some manners and acting with respect while living large on Martha's Vineyard or Mallorca, the fun times were going to come to a crashing halt. She also visits the Bush estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, where a pickle ball tournament is taking place. I didn't see that one coming.

The bottom line: Chelsea's gratitude and common sense regarding the life she's lead up to this point and how she plans to live going forward is a message that will resonate with many readers. And if you're in it for the stories of skiing naked in Whistler, you'll find that, too.
