Tax Assistance

Madison Public Library partners with other agencies in the community to provide tax assistance. See below to find information about getting free tax assistance at your neighborhood library or to find information about DIY tax resources.

Tax assistance sessions are available at select locations: Central Library, Lakeview Library, and Sequoya Library. You can view all Tax Assistance sessions on the calendar (sessions start in February). Due to the ongoing move, there are no scheduled sessions at Pinney Library this year.

Central Library - 201 W Mifflin St

Some situations are outside the scope of the service--ask if in doubt. You must have lived in Wisconsin for ALL of 2018 to use this service.

**We will begin taking appointments on Wednesday, January 23rd for the 2/9 and 2/23 tax help dates. We will take appointments for the rest of the dates (3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/30, 4/6) on February 20th.**

Note: only the next five dates are listed. Please visit the Central Calendar or call 266-6350 to find other dates.

REQUIRED by the IRS: An actual (no xeroxes) social security card OR medicare card (if it has your social security number on it) OR VA medical card (if it has your social security number on it) for you, your spouse (if a joint return is filed) and all dependents are required to use the VITA tax filing service. If needed, access information on getting a replacement social security card before scheduling a tax filing appointment. You must fill out a form and either take it to the Madison Social Security office or mail it there so that you'll have it in time for your appointment.
