Summer Highlight: Madison Reading Project

Sep 21, 2022
Madison Reading Project and Madison Public Library work together to get books and early literacy materials out to the community

As we wrap up summer, we want to showcase the long-term partnership we have with our friends at Madison Reading Project! Over the summer, we provided 3,000 Maker Kits that Madison Reading Project distributed to 16 neighborhood and community centers throughout the city.

This summer and in collaboration:

  • 473 books have gone to home visiting educators through our Parents As First Teacher program (soon to be 1,473)
  • 4,380 books were distributed to Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) summer school scholars
  • 5,000 Maker Kits assembled by Madison Public Library youth services staff were delivered by Madison Reading Project to 17 community partners and bus events
  • 1,200 classroom library books were given to MMSD 4K educators, as well as tiny tinker kits, baby song books and literacy packs from the library
  • 1,200 kids received early literacy activities through My First Pages
  • 1,700 library card applications were given to families
  • 20+ child care programs are regularly receiving library collection deliveries

We love working together to get books and other early literacy materials into the hands of kids, families, schools, childcare programs and more! Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Madison Public Library and Madison Reading Project who help make these high-impact deliveries a reality.
