Read Like a Badger: Libraries Rock!

Read Like a Badger

Starting June 1, visit one of the nine Madison libraries or register online to join our Summer Reading Club.

All ages welcome from birth through 8th grade. Join us on a brain-building reading adventure this summer and earn a free book of your choice and an invitation to our Rock the Library Sessions, a special Bubbler Jr. making experience just for summer readers.

Summer Reading Club runs through August 31.

Check out our Kidspages or keep an eye on our calendar for up-to-date information about kids’ events.

Why Summer Reading?

The Summer Reading Club helps kids & teens read and learn all summer! This helps keep their skills up - and have fun. When kids stop reading, they actually lose some of what they learned over the school year. This is called the "summer slide." By providing different ways of learning through free events and hands-on learning, we strive to give kids a fun reason to keep reading and encourage them to read what they like best. We hope to hold off the "summer slide" and keep kids ready for continued learning in the fall.

The Summer Reading Club is part of every library location and we also take it out to summer school sites, community centers and day cares all around Madison. Would you like to bring the Summer Reading Club to your group or daycare?Get more information and sign up at our Group Summer Reading page.

For more about the importance of summer reading, read the Department of Public Instruction's Fact Sheet, Why Public Library Summer Reading Programs Are Important and this article from School Library Journal.
