As parents, we have lots of ideas, questions and best practices to share and discuss. But we also know our conversations can be relegated to brief or superficial chats, often interrupted by kids just as we get to know someone. Join us at Pinney Library on Friday, April 21 from 5:30-7:30PM for a chance to engage in interactive, inclusive, and dynamic small group conversations both in English and Spanish. You can choose topics of interest when you register for the event - some examples might include "rainy day activities" "bedtime routines" "picky eaters" "favorite books" "best outdoor places in Madison" or "shows to watch when the kids are asleep,” but the actual topics would be up to those who attend. We’ll use an “open space” facilitation, meaning no one is the expert and you can move to new topics whenever you like.
Event Timeline:
- 5:30PM: Dinner for parents and kids.
- 6:15PM: Childcare providers will take the kids to play, read, or do arts and crafts activities while parents talk.
- 6:15-7:15PM: Engage in interactive, inclusive, and dynamic small group conversations both in English and Spanish on topics chosen by the group. You’ll leave with new ideas, make new connections and hopefully new friends, playdates, and networking opportunities.
You'll have the opportunity to share more about yourself and ideas for discussion here. Once the event is over, we will send out idea lists so everyone can benefit from our collaborative discussions.

Meet the Library Takeover Team
Started by parents whose kids attend Nuestro Mundo Community School, this group hopes to provide an opportunity for parents to gather in-person to share knowledge, resources and tips. They're passionate about providing an "open space" facilitation model that allows everyone to interact as equals and move fluidly throughout the space as their interests are piqued by different topics. This group designed their event to be bilingual in English and Spanish, with open discussion where people can learn from each other without the hierarchy of a single “expert”. This team is focused on getting parents and caregivers together in a way that is inclusive, as well as building community among elementary school-aged families.

Como padres de familia, tenemos muchas ideas, preguntas y mejores prácticas para compartir y discutir. Pero también sabemos que nuestras conversaciones pueden ser relegadas a platicas breves o superficiales, con frecuencia interrumpidas por los niños mientras conocemos a alguien. Únase a nosotros en la Biblioteca Pinney el viernes 21 de abril para tener la oportunidad de participar en conversaciones interactivas, inclusivas y dinámicas de grupos pequeños tanto en inglés como en español. Puede elegir temas de interés cuando se registre para el evento, algunos ejemplos pueden incluir "actividades de día lluvioso" , "rutinas de la hora de acostarse", "comedores quisquillosos", "libros favoritos", "mejores lugares al aire libre en Madison", o "programas para ver cuando los niños están dormidos ", pero los temas reales dependerían de quienes asisten. Usaremos una facilitación de espacio abierto, lo que significa que nadie es el experto y puede pasar a nuevos temas cuando lo desee. Una vez que termine el evento, enviaremos listas de ideas para que todos puedan beneficiarse de nuestras discusiones colaborativas.
