Outerlibrary Loan service is back at Madison Public Library! OuterLibrary Loan (OLL) is the process of sharing (lending/borrowing) materials between libraries. It allows our patrons to borrow materials or obtain photocopies from items that aren't owned by Madison Public Library or the South Central Library System.
Our OLL team fields over 30,000 requests each year, but when libraries shut down in March, they were unable to continue borrowing or lending materials. As of October 28, 2020 OLL is back up and running. You can complete an online request for books, DVDs, CDs, newspaper and magazine articles, etc. that are not available in the South Central Library System. However, a few things have changed with this service:
- The lending period is now 4 weeks (as opposed to the typical 2) during the pandemic. However, no renewals are allowed.
- Because materials are coming from libraries outside of Madison Public Library, our new Fine Free policy does not apply. OLL materials accrue fines of $1 each day they are overdue.
- We've added a new book strap to OLL materials that should not be removed. It includes detailed info on our new policy changes and helps connect the item to your library account. The new book strap is salmon instead of the yellow you may be used to!
