Domesticated with Hannah Bennett

Just like plants and animals develop new characteristics as they become tamed by human beings, art can be domesticated as well.

Artist Hannah O’Hare Bennett invites the public to explore the domestication of nature-inspired art in spaces that feel domestic themselves during her May-June residency with the Bubbler at Madison Public Library.

Bennett grew up on a small, organic farm in Kansas, where she was in constant contact with the textures of the natural word. Her tactile art embodies her experiences with printmaking, weaving, papermaking, and farming, featuring patterns and textures of the midwestern landscape. Bennett exhibits her work across the country, teaches workshops, and explores custom projects - all while working as a substitute teacher in the public schools of Dane County.

During her residency, Bennett will host a number of workshops centered around papermaking, sculpture, embroidery, and other tactile arts. Her open studio sessions will invite participants to contribute to an ever-growing book or add to a collaborative installation.
