Bubbler in the Neighborhood Artists 2022

Madison Public Library is excited to introduce a new summer series happening citywide starting in June 2022. Each Madison Public Library has been partnered with a Bubbler community artist for the summer. Each artist will plan programs at their library from June-August geared toward kids and families. These projects will be co-created with the kids and families that frequent each library through collaboration with the Bubbler artist. The goal is to create deeper relationships with kids and families through multiple interactions throughout the summer, as opposed to one-off events. Bubbler artists will also be attending community events in each neighborhood to provide support and fun activities.

Here are some of the ways you can interact with Bubbler in the Neighborhood Artists this summer:

Alicia Ashman LibraryAnji Play at Bayview Foundation with Carissa

The Bubbler artist at Alicia Ashman will support the True Play studio. Come to the library and stretch your creative muscles! Each week we'll have several different areas of the library set up with supplies to spark your imagination. In the True Play Studio, we encourage kids to dream up their own projects (or to just spend time daydreaming; process is more important than a final product). Messy clothes recommended - projects could include paint, glue, etc.

True Play Studio takes place Tuesdays, 2-4 p.m. from July 12 - August 16.

Central Library

Central Library is hosting an Artist-in-Residence in the Bubbler Room for the first time since COVID-19. Longtime Bubbler collaborator Audifax will engage kids, families and adults looking for art and making projects starting in July!

Goodman South Madison LibraryOpen Art Studio at Goodman South Madison Library

Goodman South Madison's Open Art Studio will continue on Wednesday nights from 5-7 p.m. and will be led by Bubbler Artist Maria Schirmer Devitt.

Hawthorne Library

Hawthorne's Bubbler artist is Ciara Nash and she will be focused on attending community events alongside youth librarian Jessi H. See them at events like Lowell-a-bration, Parks Alive! and more. You can also join Ciara for Arts in the Alley on July 23, 10:30AM-1:30PM to make your own miniature collage.

Lakeview Library

Bubbler artist and well-known Madison muralist Mike Lroy will lead programs at Lakeview Library called Painting is for Everyone!

Mike’s programming at Lakeview Library will show that painting really is for everybody! Come to the library to explore your own creativity and showcase the art that you can create. Please join us for this all-ages art experience! Mike Lroy is a local creator, visual designer, and painter. If you are interested in seeing more of Mike’s work, please visit his website, www.mikelroy.com

Painting is for Everyone! takes place Thursdays, 2-4 p.m. from June 23 - August 18 (no event on July 28)

Meadowridge LibraryMr. Alexis Dean for We Read

Mr. Alexis has worked with the library for years and is back as the artist-in-residence at Meadowridge Library this summer! Alexis Dean Jr. (also known as “L.E.X” and “Mr. Alexis”) is a clean Hip-Hop artist, author, poet, DJ, educator, and more! He’s dedicated over 10 years to teaching students in and out of classrooms. His workshop at Meadowridge is called Poetry is for Everyone: Using poetry, we can all tell our own story and share it with others! Join Mr. Alexis to create something poetic for yourself, a friend, or loved one.

Poetry is for Everyone takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6:15-7:45 p.m. from June 29 - August 24. On July 20, August 3 and August 17, Mr. Alexis will be attending the Parks Alive! event at Meadowood Park across from the library, as opposed to leading the workshop indoors.

Monroe Street Library

Monroe Street's artist, Madison Weist, will be hosting a once-a-month interactive workshop for kids, teens, adults and families.

Come join us for drop-in art workshops this summer! The themes we’ll be embracing are creativity, community, and connection as we celebrate together this summer. All ages and skills levels are welcome. Projects will include creating stamps and postcards to send to loved ones and neighbors, making imaginary animals come to life through collage and creativity, and participating in a library card design competition. Come see what we can create together!

Madison's workshop happens on the second Saturday of each month from 2-4 p.m.

Pinney LibraryPinney Library paper making with Maria Amalia Wood

Pinney's artist is Angela Johnson and she'll be hosting a weekly Open Art session for kids and families.

Sequoya Library

Sequoya's artist is Kai Saplan, who originally hails from the island of Hawai'i, but has called Madison home since 2016. They are a scholar, artist, and educator working with young people to express themselves (personally and culturally) through creative writing, theatre, and maker-based learning. Kiddos should be ready to move their bodies and bring their imagination.
