Derek Hobbs current art series Endangered highlights vulnerable to critically endangered animal species across the globe. The Chinese symbol shown in red essentially means go, move or displacement intended to bring our awareness to the fact that we are encroaching on their natural habitats.

All are welcome to enjoy his work on display now through February at Alicia Ashman Library. 


About the Derek Hobbs

Derek Hobbs is a local artist with a diverse background who has lived in Madison, WI for the last 7 years though born and raised in New London, CT he was drawn to Madison for it’s eclectic culture. He lives here in Madison with his wife and 2 daughters. Though he dabbles in impressionistic and abstract expressionistic styles, he mostly gravitates a more realistic style. 

Hobbs obtained his Bachelor’s of Science in Natural Resources Studies with a minor in Biology from Ball State University in Muncie, IN and since living in Madison, has taken several art courses as part of their Graphic Design curriculum at Madison College where he also obtained a degree in Web Software Development. While growing up he worked as assistant to several artists with their sculpting and restoration projects, these experiences along with diligent self study make up the core of his artistic education.
