ACA Healthcare Open Enrollment Starts November 1

Open Enrollment for 2019 runs from November 1, 2018 to December 15, 2018 - the yearly period when people can enroll in a health insurance plan. 

Covering Wisconsin navigators provide support for Wisconsin residents in choosing, paying for, renewing, and accessing healthcare. They are hosting a few events at the library, as well as other places throughout the city. You can find additional information and resources below.

Affordable Care Act – Health Insurance Marketplace 

The best source of information is the federal Health Insurance Marketplace: on-line at www.healthcare.gov, or at 1-800-318-2596.

  • This is where people who are eligible can sign up for an insurance plan from local health insurance companies, with federal discounts.
  • Open Enrollment for 2019 ACA Marketplace health insurance plans starts November 1 and runs through December 31.
  • If you have a Marketplace plan, call the Marketplace or go on-line to update your information so that your discounts are correct. You need to renew your coverage every year, or you can shop for a new plan. For more information, https://www.healthcare.gov/keep-or-change-plan
  • People with low income might be eligible for BadgerCare Plus (Medicaid) instead.  You will find out when you apply through the Marketplace, or see the information below.

Other good sources of information about the ACA

The United Way Health Connect program pays the insurance premiums (monthly cost) for some Dane County residents who sign up for certain Marketplace plans.

BadgerCare Plus

BadgerCare Plus is Medicaid health care coverage for Wisconsin residents with low income. BadgerCare rules changed in 2014 so adults without minor children are now eligible.

    • Navigators from Covering Wisconsin (CWI) will be at the PHMDC east office (2705 East Washington Ave. Mon., Thurs., Fri. 9-4:30; Wed. 10-6), providing free help to consumers to sign up for Marketplace insurance plans or BadgerCare Plus. Appointments encouraged. More info can be found here.
