Silly Snouts

Reviewed on 1/24/16

A simple flip book of silly animals and emotions, easy enough for very young children, but also a great conversation starter for older kids. Flip the top of the page or the bottom of the page to mix and match pictures of a dog, a cat, a pig and a bear. Swipe your finger across the page to distort the image for a fun-house mirror effect (with accompanying recorded giggles) or flip the book around to mix and match the back sides of the same animals. Each time you match the top and bottom pages with the same animal, you hear that animal’s sound (the dog barks, the pig snorts, etc.). One fantastic element of these drawings is that the faces are split right below the nose and the facial expressions have been created in such a way that every combination works together to indicate a new emotion.  Eyes that look angry with a grumpy mouth look devious with a smiling mouth.  This would be a great app to use when talking with kids who struggle to interpret facial expressions.
