Fall Kidspages are here!

Plan your fall fun today! Check out the library activities for children and families this fall and winter! Save a tree and check out the online English version on our website.

Print copies are also available at a library near you. Or, print your own from our web site. The Spanish language version will be coming soon.

Library LEGO Clubs Near and Far

No matter where you are, you can find a LEGO Club near you! That's because every Madison Public Library now has a LEGO Club. There are several events happening in the next couple of weeks. Check out these awesome events and Build On!

LEGO Clubs at Madison Public Library allow kids the opportunity to build alongside other kids who love LEGOs.  Sometimes the librarian may provide a theme for inspiration; other times, it's just an opportunity to explore the open-ended possibilities of creating with a giant mountain of LEGOs.

For more times and locations, check out our new webpage:

If you have LEGOs at home that your children have outgrown or no longer use, please consider donating them to the library. Just bring them to your nearest location to give our LEGO clubs more of the raw material they need.

Little Free Library Build, Bring, Browse, Bike!

Join Little Free Library for a day of building. Help build 4 Little Free Libraries. Plus help us stock them by bringing in books from home you don't want. Browse the free books on site, and maybe take a new-to-you book home. And, if the weather cooperates, come bike with us to local Little Free Libraries and stock them with books!

  • Saturday, August 22, 9 am - Central Library, Bubbler

Little Free Libraries are free book exchanges (you know, those little wooden boxes full of books) in front yards and public spaces around town. In 2009, Madison was one of the first cities to adopt them. There are now over 250 in Madison and Dane County.

This event is free and open to the public. No previous experience is required for building. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Big Thanks to our partners: Sustain Dane, Wisconsin Cwenter for the Book, Reading Group Choices, and the Friends of the Madison Public Library.

New Books

Boats Go
by Steve Light
All aboard! Sail away with 8 noisy boats, as they toot, chug, clang, and splash their way across the water! The sturdy pages feature a fireboat, tugboat, cruise ship, paddleboat, speedboat, sailboat, submarine, and gondola, and encourage young readers to chime in with all the noises each makes--ssshhhh cling-clang FLAP FLAP FLAP goes the sailboat! Here's a joyful addition to this much-praised series.
by Karen Beaumont
Hush, hush! Rush, rush! When Baby cries, her family and neighbors try to stop her tears and help her to sleep. But all their rushing and hushing, tickling and rocking, and feeding and burping can't stop Baby's tears. Roy, the old retriever, knows what Baby needs to fall asleep--her little white sheep! In this rhythmic and soothing lullaby of a story, doggy knows best. Good boy, Roy!
Disney Descendants
by Rico Green
Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos are the offspring of some of the most terrible villains of all time. They're offered a chance to leave the Isle of the Lost, where they have been imprisoned all their lives, and go to prep school in the idyllic kingdom of Auradon with all of the "good" kids. There, they must choose whether or not to follow in their parents' evil footsteps. Watch out Auradon--here come the Descendants!
Based on the movie: Descendants, written by Josann McGibbon & Sara Parriott.
by Ethan Long
A string of comically stylized animals greet each other in masterfully rhyming couplets--an owl's "hoo" is answered by a cow's "moo"; a crow's "caw" is returned with a donkey's "hee-haw"--all leading up to the "hi!" and "good-bye!" of a human toddler and his mom! The first in a brand-new board book series on animal (and human) first words by award-winning author and illustrator Ethan Long.
The Last Ever After
by Soman Chainani and Bruno Iacopo
n the stunning conclusion to the New York Times bestselling School for Good and Evil trilogy, everything old is new again, as Sophie and Agatha fight the past as well as the present to find the perfect end to their fairy tale. Former best friends Sophie and Agatha thought their ending was sealed when they went their separate ways, but their storybook is about to be rewritten--and this time theirs isn't the only one. With the girls apart, Evil has taken over and the forces of Good are in deathly peril. Will Agatha and Sophie be able to work together to save them? Will they find their way to being friends again? And will their new ending be the last Ever After they've been searching for? Soman Chainani delivers action, adventure, laughter, romance, and more twists than ever before in this extraordinary end to his epic series.
In 1899, a twelve-year-old rat catcher on North Carolina's Biltmore estate teams up with the estate owner's young nephew to battle a great evil and, in the process, unlocks the puzzle of her past.
