ONLINE: Another Evening with James Baldwin

Fermat's Theater, Madison Public Library, and Beyond the Page will be presenting another evening of prose and personal remembrance of James Baldwin, with guests Melvin Hinton (readings and reflections), Quanda Johnson (poetry and song), Akiwele Burayidi (dance), and Oliver Gomez (on the string bass).

Quanda Johnson is an actress and singer who has appeared on and off Broadway and is a PhD candidate in the Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies at UW-Madison.  Quanda will read from Baldwin's poetry and sing three spirituals/slave songs. Melvin Hinton is an independent scholar and WORT radio host who met James Baldwin in Paris and Madrid.  He will read prose selections from Letter to My Nephew, Sonny's Blues and Giovanni's Room and recall his encounters with the author. Akiwele Burayidi is a dancer who has performed with Fermat's Last Theater in several shows.  She will be a junior in the UW-Madison Dance Department in September. Oliver Gomez is a jazz bassist who will accompany the readers.  He is entering the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY in the fall.
