Navigating Screens: Libraries as Community Hubs for Teaching Positive Screen Media Practices
This training is for librarians and other community professionals interested in media advocacy for parents and caregivers. The goals of the training session are to: 1) Empower librarians and other professionals with tools to talk with parents and other caregivers about digital media and to serve as digital media advocates within their communities, 2) Provide specific tools for conversations with parents and caregivers about media, and 3) Share project research findings (interviews with 51 families about screen media practices). We will be sharing pilot versions of two training topics: 1) Flipping the Script: Changing the narrative about Children and Media, and 2) Guiding Family Media Use: Every Family & Community is Different. The training and research was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
