Saturday, Sep 21, 2024, 10:00am to 11:00am

Join local author, DeShala Walker, for a reading of her children’s book, Staying the Course: A Story about Trauma, Healing and Finding a Voice in the Middle of Silence.  The reading will be accompanied by related, engaging activities and a discussion of what children should do when scary things happen.  The first 10 participants will receive a free book, and there will be books available for purchase.

DeShala Walker is a School Social Worker, and over the years, she has listened to many students share their experiences with scary events, particularly those involving unwanted touches. These conversations inspired her to write a children's book titled, Staying The Course: A Story about Trauma, Healing, and Finding a Voice in the Middle of the Silence.  Written from personal experience and professional expertise, this book shares Walker’s story and serves as a guide for children on how to cope with and talk about traumatic experiences.
