This sale takes place at the Friends of Sequoya Bookshop, 6672 Odana Road.

On the first Saturday of each month, Friends of Sequoya Book Sales take place at our shop located at 6672 Odana Road in Market Square (next to Play-it-Again Sports). Some months also have a "bonus" sale on third Saturdays!

Masks are welcome but not required.

Is your Big Bossy missing an ear? Lambie sprung a stuffing leak? Pato the Duck have a hole in his wing? Christina can help you learn to visually mend your most precious stuffed friend with sewing and fabric patches. They will be even more lovable after the repair. Please bring your own stuffed animal. All materials for the most common stuffed animal repair are provided, including spare parts, stuffing, patches, and more.

The skills in this class are targeted at adult learners, however, youth participants are welcome to attend with an adult! Registration is required and opens two weeks prior to the event on August 24, 2024.

About the artist: Christina Ruhaak is an artist and textile designer with a studio practice here in Madison. Inventing and making the tools she needs to create her work is one of her favorite things. When she needs time to think she tends to her mending basket. Christina has an MFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design.

The Pinney Saturday Music Series welcomes performers on the first Saturday of the month! (Intended audience is adults, teen, and older children.)

Saturday September 7th, 11am-12pm: Tzêra

Tzêra is a singer-songwriter, self-taught guitarist native to Puerto Rico. Her upbringing in the Caribbean exposed her to an eclectic fusion of rhythmic genres, such as Ska, Funk, Salsa, Latin Jazz, Reggaetón, and R&B. Drawing inspiration from her cultural background as well as her experiences, Tzêra's passion for music materializes in a peculiar repertoire of songs that she has been performing throughout Madison, Wisconsin for the past two years. Accompanying her soulful voice with her mellow guitar playing, these honest performances include an array of autobiographical unreleased tracks such as “El Taxi”, “Addicted to you”, and “Aretes color Sol,” as well as captivating renditions of songs from artists with diverse backgrounds, like, Cultura Profética, Amy Winehouse, Nathy Peluso, and much more.

The Munch Mobile Lunch Van will make a stop at Lakeview Library on Saturdays this fall.  All people in and around the library can get a free lunch between 12:00 and 12:20pm.

Even if you’ve only used purchased crust for your pies, after this class you may be tempted to try to make a dough from scratch. We’ll discuss different fats like lard, butter, and shortening, and what effect they have on the finished pie. We then have a taste comparison of doughs made with each fat and talk about an easy way to roll out the perfect crust!

About the Presenter

Punky Egan earned the title of Certified Master Baker, one of less than 200 in the country, from the professional organization RBA (Retail Bakers of America). Through her 45-year professional baking career, she owned Sucré Patisserie and Dessert Lounge, was a consultant to the baking industry, and recipe developer. At Madison College, she was the director of the baking program as well as lead instructor. She co-authored 3 cookbooks, wrote baking articles for professional publications, created instructional baking videos for her baking students. She had a regular baking segment on a local TV station and was even on the Food Network!

Stop by to have your items repaired. Menders will be available on site to help repair items, and teach basic mending skills. 

Do you have clothing or other fabric items that need mending? Sewers from the Sewing Machine Project are offering free mending. These helpful sewers mend clothing and can handle any other fabric-related repairs (exception: no zipper repairs). 

3-4 skilled volunteers will also be available to teach mending skills. This is your chance to ask questions, and learn the basics for mending your own items at home. No sign-up required!
