For people interested in a wide variety of roleplaying games, including traditional roleplaying games such as Original D&D, 1st Edition AD&D, Classic Traveller, Pendragon, and Call of Cthulhu, as well as retro-clones like Old School Essentials, Labyrinth Lord, Swords & Wizardry, and others.

We also play more contemporary RPGs such as Savage Worlds and GURPS, as well as games like Beyond the Wall, Torchbearer, Powered By The Apocalypse and FATE.

If you played any of these games in the past, or are COMPLETELY NEW to them, we're happy to have you come and play. 

Meets every third Saturday at Hawthorne Library.

This sale takes place at the Friends of Sequoya Bookshop, 6672 Odana Road

On the first Saturday of each month, Friends of Sequoya Book Sales take place at our shop located at 6672 Odana Road in Market Square (next to Play-it-Again Sports.) Months with five Saturdays also have a "bonus" sale on Third Saturdays!
At this time, for the safety of our customers and volunteers, masks are not required but are encouraged.

The library will provide lots of LEGOs, and you provide the imagination. No registration required. LEGOs will have to stay at the library, so bring a camera to capture your creations.

La mini feria del libro

Descubre nuevos libros en español para niños y adultos, incluyendo libros de la Feria internacional del libro de Guadalajara. Regístrese para obtener una tarjeta de la biblioteca, aprenda sobre los recursos de la biblioteca o asista a uno de nuestros eventos especiales. Se ofrecerá bebidas y comida.

Horario de eventos (sujeto a cambios)

  • 9:30am - 2pm: Feria abierta
  • 9:30am - 11:30am: Nuestro pueblo en todos lados
  • 10:00am: Palabras de Inauguración, seguidas por la presentación del Diccionario del español de México (DEM), por parte del Consulado de México en Milwaukee. Una copia del DEM será donada por el Colegio de México (COLMEX) a la biblioteca y estará disponible para todo público en nuestras instalaciones.
  • 10:45am: Cuenta cuentos en español

A Mini Spanish Language Book Fair

Discover new books in Spanish for kids and adults, including books from the Feria internacional del libro de Guadalajara. Sign up for a library card, learn about library resources, or attend one of our special events. Beverages and snacks will be provided.

Schedule of events (subject to change)

  • 9:30am - 2pm: Book Fair open 
  • 9:30am - 11:30am:  Our Town Everywhere
  • 10:00am: Opening remarks, followed by the presentation of the Mexican Spanish Dictionary (DEM), by the Consulate of Mexico in Milwaukee. A copy of the DEM will be donated by the Colegio de México (COLMEX) to the library and will be available to the public at our facilities.
  • 10:45am:  Spanish Storytime

Nuestro Pueblo en todos lados/ Our Town Everywhere

Gente de todas edades están invitados a participar en el proyecto de retratos Nuestra ciudad por todos lados, organizado por el Bubbler en el estudio de la biblioteca Pinney. Miembros de la comunidad crean su propios retratos usando estampas únicamente creados y cuando entregan su retrato para el proyecto, serán regalados el retrato de otra persona de la comunidad. Artistas locales hispanohablantes estarán facilitando esta sesión del proyecto de Nuestra ciudad por todos lados. 

Este evento es parte de la Mini feria del libro.

Attendees of all ages are invited to participate in the Bubbler’s community-wide portrait-making project, Our Town Everywhere, in the Pinney Library Studio. Community members create their own self-portrait using uniquely crafted stamps and when they submit their portrait for the project, they’re given a print of someone else’s portrait from the community. Local, Spanish-speaking artists will facilitate this session of the Our Town Everywhere project.

Practice speaking, reading and writing English with Literacy Network. Beginning to advanced students welcome!

For more information, fill out the New Student Interest Form or call our office at 608-244-3911 to make an appointment. During the registration appointment you will talk with a staff member over the phone about your goals and they will help you choose the best program for you. All programs are free. At registration, you pay for program materials, $10, $20 or $40 depending on program. Cash, check or credit cards. Scholarships are available.

Fall 2023 classes run September 16th-December 9th...sessions are in-person at the Literacy Network, 701 Dane Street, Madison WI 53713, across the street from the Goodman South Madison Library.

READ and PLAY together with other children Spanish! Engaging with books, songs and playful experiences all help children develop communication skills, patience, empathy, and pre-reading skills​ - and helps to build a lifelong love of reading. Autumn is the perfect time to make a fruit pie! In this class, you'll learn an easy way to make perfect pie crust and how to roll out the dough. We'll discuss different thickening agents and when to use them such as cornstarch, instant cornstarch, modified cornstarch, and tapioca. Samples will be provided.

Space is limited for this event; registration is required. Please use the sign up link below or call (608) 246-4547 to register. Registration opens on September 2 at 9 a.m., two weeks prior to program date.

 

About the Presenter

Punky Egan earned the title of Certified Master Baker, one of less than 200 in the country, from the professional organization RBA (Retail Bakers of America). Through her 45-year professional baking career, she owned Sucré Patisserie and Dessert Lounge, was a consultant to the baking industry, and a recipe developer. At Madison College, she was the director of the baking program as well as lead instructor. She co-authored 3 cookbooks, wrote baking articles for professional publications, and created instructional baking videos for her baking students. She had a regular baking segment on a local TV station and was even on the Food Network!

Join us for Saturday Jazz! This month, we welcome Les Cordes en Blue.

Les Cordes en Blue is a Madison based acoustic string jazz trio. Our repertoire includes music inspired by the legendary Django Reinhardt as well as bebop, jazz standards, French jazz/pop, and contemporary inspired novelties. We want our music to have you tapping your feet, feeling the groove, and maybe even dancing!

Jazz at Sequoya features local musicians on the third Saturday of every month. The series is generously funded by the Friends of Sequoya Library.

Learn how to make infusions using nature's bounty. Library Naturalist-in-Residence Qwantese will guide you through the steps to make a digestive bitter with dandelion root and burdock root!

Registration for this workshop begins two-weeks prior to the event. Registration will open September 2 at 9:00am.
