This sale takes place at the Friends of Sequoya Bookshop, 6672 Odana Road

On the first Saturday of each month, Friends of Sequoya Book Sales take place at our shop located at 6672 Odana Road in Market Square (next to Play-it-Again Sports.) Months with five Saturdays also have a "bonus" sale on Third Saturdays!
At this time, for the safety of our customers and volunteers, masks are not required but are encouraged.

Madison Public Library will celebrate Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 6. We will have free comic books available at all nine of our library locations to celebrate, so stop in to get free comics for all ages while supplies last. Thank you to Capital City Comics for helping us source the comic books!

Practice speaking, reading and writing English with Literacy Network. Beginning to advanced students welcome!

For more information, fill out the New Student Interest Form or call our office at 608-244-3911 to make an appointment. During the registration appointment you will talk with a staff member over the phone about your goals and they will help you choose the best program for you. All programs are free. At registration, you pay for program materials, $10, $20 or $40 depending on program. Cash, check or credit cards. Scholarships are available.

Spring 2023 classes run January 28th-May 6th. February 18th, March 25th, & May 6th sessions are in-person; all other classes will be held via zoom and students must sign up through Literacy Network to receive the link.

Create a unique Mother's Day card for a loved one! Iris folding is a technique that involves arranging strips of paper to form a design reminiscent of the iris of a camera lens. Cards, craft paper, and decorating supplies will be provided.

Registration is required. To register, please click the link below or call Lakeview Library at 608-246-4547. Registration opens on January April 22 at 9 a.m., two weeks prior to program date.

Cyanotype Workshop with Creativity Coach Angela Johnson

This workshop will explore the history of cyanotypes (a camera-less photography process) as well as offer lots of time for hands-on exploration of this media. Pre-treated fabric will be used to create single and dual sided imagery, using a variety of materials for inspiration including leaves, flowers, stencils and more.

Feel free to bring your own inspirational items from home to use (lace doily, pressed flowers, or other FLAT or translucent materials).

Limited space available - registration opens 2 weeks before this event, on April 22.  Will take place in the Pinney Studio and outdoor Patio.

This workshop is geared towards older teens, adults, and seniors.

Instructor Bio:

Angela Johnson is an artist and educator with a creative spirit. Her teaching career started as a 5th grade Language Arts teacher. No matter the classroom, her teaching philosophy remains the same – give students the tools to grow from learner to leader in both art and life. When not making work, teaching, or working with individuals, groups, and organizations as a creative coach, Angela can be found meditating, kayaking, or scuba diving. She earned her Masters in Art Education and MFA from UW-Madison.

This workshop provides a supportive space to explore your artistry! Participants in the workshop will create one Giant Community Sketchbook as well as several small sketchbooks for all to contribute+add to through responses to daily prompts. This workshop is geared towards artists excited to dabble in a variety of mediums including written word, drawn images, and collage!

All ages welcome, youth must be accompanied by an adult

Participants will learn about different foods, where they come from, how to follow recipes, and how to use a variety of tools.  Registration is not required, but participation will be limited to the first 25 attendees. Food generously provided by Willy St. Co-op North.

Join jewelry artist Lisa Lauren from Kettle Black Silver for this teen and tween metal jewelry making program! Participants will learn how to make jewelry using metal wire. While this class is for all teens and tweens, kids 10 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult. This class is limited to 16 participants so make sure to sign up! Come and meet the artists behind the amazing felted pieces on display at Sequoya Library from April 5-May 30! Be sure to stop by the Sequoya Squares interactive felt display to create your own design or pattern. We'll also enjoy light refreshments.

The Madison Area Felters' Guild provides a supportive community for felters to advance their skills, inspire their artistry working with fiber, and educate others about the many forms of this fiber art.
