A community social worker will be on hand to answer questions and provide assistance with these primary areas of focus:

  • Individual/Family:  Working directly with families to offer support or make connections to resources
  • Community:  Collaborating with area partners to build capacity around issues important to people living in the community.
  • System/Organizational:   Helping network area agencies, non-profits, faith-based organizations, and others to better connect families to available resources and opportunities.  Whenever possible, we encourage collaboration across agencies to improve services and support available to families.

Buck and the Preacher (1972)

Dir: Sidney Poitier

"With his rousingly entertaining directorial debut, Sidney Poitier, alongside actor-producer Harry Belafonte, helped rewrite the history of the western, bringing Black heroes to a genre in which they had always been sorely underrepresented. Combining boisterous buddy comedy with blistering, Black Power–era political fury, Poitier and a marvelously mischievous Belafonte star as a tough and taciturn wagon master and an unscrupulous, pistol-packing “preacher,” who join forces in order to take on the white bounty hunters threatening a westward-bound caravan of people recently emancipated from slavery. A superbly crafted revisionist landmark, Buck and the Preacher subverts Hollywood conventions at every turn and reclaims the western genre in the name of Black liberation."

Not rated. 103 mins.

Community Room B
Wednesday, Sep 14, 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Love anime, or been wanting to get into it? Join us every Wednesday evening in September for Meadowridge Library Anime Club's Samurai September! Every Wednesday evening, we'll celebrate by watching an episode of a samurai anime.

This week, we'll be watching Gintama. In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.

This anime is appropriate for ages 8 and up. Come hungry! Dinner will be served.
