The Madison Writing Assistance (MWA) program offers free, one-to-one writing support for community members, traditionally at libraries and neighborhood centers throughout the city, and now online.

For the health and safety of our community, all MWA writing support will be offered remotely through the fall. Options for remote writing assistance include:

  • conversation over the phone
  • face-to-face conversation via Google Meet
  • written feedback via email

To make an appointment, please visit MWA's Appointment Center or call 608-315-5151.

MWA services are made possible through generous donations from the Evjue Foundation, the UW Anonymous Fund, and Altrusa International of Madison, along with administrative and program support from the UW-Madison English Department, the UW-Madison Writing Center, and our library and neighborhood center partners.

Thursday, Apr 8, 7:00pm to 8:00pm

An explosive, character-driven odyssey through the world of baseball from Emily Nemens, the editor of The Paris Review. Jason Goodyear is the star outfielder for the Los Angeles Lions, stationed with the rest of his team in the punishingly hot Arizona desert for their annual spring training. Handsome, famous, and talented, Goodyear is nonetheless coming apart at the seams. And the coaches, writers, wives, girlfriends, petty criminals, and diehard fans following his every move are eager to find out why—as they hide secrets of their own. Emily Nemens will appear live on Crowdcast to discuss her newest book, The Cactus League, in conversation with Porter Shreve, UW Professor and author of The End of the BookJoin the event at: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/wbf-cactus-league.
