The Madison Writing Assistance (MWA) program offers free, one-to-one writing support for community members, traditionally at libraries and neighborhood centers throughout the city, and now online.

For the health and safety of our community, all MWA writing support will be offered remotely through the fall. Options for remote writing assistance include:

  • conversation over the phone
  • face-to-face conversation via Google Meet
  • written feedback via email

To make an appointment, please visit MWA's Appointment Center or call 608-315-5151.

MWA services are made possible through generous donations from the Evjue Foundation, the UW Anonymous Fund, and Altrusa International of Madison, along with administrative and program support from the UW-Madison English Department, the UW-Madison Writing Center, and our library and neighborhood center partners.

Creativity is a proven way to reduce stress and tap into resilience. What if you're not "creative"? What if you don't have art supplies? What if you are very skeptical about the whole idea? Perfect! Join Theresa Kim for Meditative Creativity: Pencil & Paper Edition. We will be using pencil (or pen) and paper (or napkins or backs of cereal boxes - whatever you have handy) and focusing on the process of making marks and designs to quiet our minds and calm our hearts. Absolutely, positively no art skills required. The question you are invited to ask yourself is, "What have I got to lose?"

This event will be hosted virtually through Zoom. The link to this program will be sent to you by email when you sign up. Zoom is a free video platform, and you can watch on a browser, or through the free mobile app for ios or android.
