Come experience Anji Play! In this weekly award-winning program, kids play while adults observe. At the end of play, kids can create play stories to share their play with others. This educational approach, rooted in children choosing their own play, was created in Anji County in China and Madison Public Library is a pilot site for developing a library Anji Play model. Messy clothes recommended. Open to all ages. No registration required.

Join other neighborhood families for a casual library playdate, featuring child-led play and great books! For kids of all ages, with their caregivers. Coffee and tea will be provided.

While Pinney Library is closed, this program will be held at the Lussier Family East YMCA [711 Cottage Grove Road] in the first floor studio room, and is free and open to all.

The Media Lab at Central Library is a free space to explore digital media production in the realms of stop motion animation, 3D world design, green screen video, audio design and graphic design. Drop in and explore the lab or work on projects with the expertise of our media lab staff.

Join MMSD guest readers for community readings of 'I am Jazz', a book co-written by transgender trailblazer Jazz Jennings about her experience as a transgender girl.

Readings begin at 6:15pm, with activities available starting at 6pm in the children’s area.

African American History in Madison

Come enjoy local history buffs Pia James and Char Braxton pay tribute to their legacies in Madison through a discussion of Madison past, present and future. James was the first African American woman police officer and Char Braxton is on staff with the Odyssey Program. Both are from African American families who have lived in Madison for generations. There will also be a Soul food meal featuring African American food from local African American caterer, Ruthie’s Chili Spot.
