April 1, 2020 is Census Day and only 2 months from now! The Census Bureau needs to hire a lot of Madison residents to ensure a complete count of everyone who lives here - especially people who will not initially participate by phone, mail, or website. Recruiters from the U.S. Census will be spreading awareness and helping people apply on the spot with Applicant Days. Following up with every missed individual requires the work of many Census Takers. It's a great part-time job that will pay $22/hour in Dane County. (ages 18 and up)

Witnessing Whiteness Workshop

Witnessing Whiteness Workshop

Meeting Rooms A & B Combined
Monday, Jan 27, 6:00pm to 8:30pm

Join us for a 10-week workshop based around the Book Witnessing Whiteness: The Need to Talk About Race and How to Do It by Shelly Tochluk, facilitated by Gera Raymond and Ruth Meyer.  This series is designed for white people to forward anti-racism work.  We will connect the book with dialog and experiential activities, by exploring the white experience.

Goals of the series are to build a community with a shared understanding of privilege, whiteness, and racism; increase your ability to begin, support, and progress racial justice work; and
develop leadership capacity around issues of diversity, inclusion and race.

To really understand and ultimately address how whiteness affects racism, a strong commitment to attendance is required. Sessions 1 and 10 are mandatory. We ask that any absences are pre-planned; maximum number of absences is 2. At Session 1, we will ask you to let us know the dates you plan to miss, if any.   The series is limited to 25 participants. Please call Sequoya Library (608-266-6385) or register online at madisonpubliclibrary.org/events. If you need accommoadtions to attend this program, please call 266-6385 or TDD# 266-6314 two weeks in advance.

A limited number of books will be available at Sequoya Library. Please read chapter 1 ("Naming the Problem") ahead of the first session.
