2020 Census Applicant Days - Work for the Census!

2020 Census Applicant Days - Work for the Census!

Friday, Jan 24, 9:00am to 1:00pm

April 1, 2020 is Census Day and only 2 months from now! The Census Bureau needs to hire a lot of Madison residents to ensure a complete count of everyone who lives here - especially people who will not initially participate by phone, mail, or website. Recruiters from the U.S. Census will be spreading awareness and helping people apply on the spot with Applicant Days. Following up with every missed individual requires the work of many Census Takers. It's a great part-time job that will pay $22/hour in Dane County. (ages 18 and up)

Juan Mills Art Reception

Meeting Room 115
Friday, Jan 24, 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Please join us as we celebrate new artwork by Juan Mills. Juan donated his time and talent to paint - live in the library! - five canvasses for Goodman South's refurbished teen space. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

Artist statement:
"My name is Juan Mills and I am a 15 year old sophomore at West High School. I became passionate about art when I was 9 years old and began working with art teacher Shane Quella at Walbridge School. I love to draw faces and very detailed design using paint markers, pens, spray paint and acrylics. My high energy and fast-pace work means I create art quickly. I have dyslexia and learning disabilities which make reading and writing difficult. But it also helps me be creative and artistic. My inspiration comes from the art of Shane Quella, Stefan Matioc, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Pablo Picasso. Despite my struggles, I always dream big!"

Freaks

R / 104 min / Sci-fi, thriller, mystery / USA / 2019

Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein's FREAKS portrays the story of 7-year-old Chloe (Lexy Kolker), who lives in both fear under her father's (Emile Hirsch) protective and paranoid control, and fascination of the outside world, where Abnormals create a constant threat - or so she believes. When a mysterious stranger (Bruce Dern) offers her a glimpse of what's really happening outside, Chloe soon finds that while the truth isn't so simple, the danger is very real.
