Central Cinema Cinesthesia presents Requiem for a Dream (2000)

Meeting Room 302
Thursday, Jan 2, 6:30pm to 8:45pm

Darren Aronofsky followed up his acclaimed debut π with this gritty, stylish, emotionally charged story of love, loss, drugs, and dreams set amidst the abandoned beaches and faded glory of Coney Island, Brooklyn. Based upon the novel by celebrated author Hubert Selby Jr., the film intricately links the lives of a lonely widowed mother (Ellen Burstyn), her struggling, heroin-addicted son Harry (Jared Leto), his beautiful, upper-class girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly), and his best friend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans). Requiem for a Dream is a hypnotic tale of four human beings each pursuing their vision of happiness. Even as everything begins to collapse, they refuse to let go, plummeting with their dreams into a nightmarish, gut-wrenching free fall.
