Friends of Sequoya Book Sale!
Location: 442 Westgate Mall, Madison WI 53711. Next to TJMaxx in Westgate Mall. Thousands of books for sale each month. Most books are donations, some library withdrawals also for sale. Nonfiction titles are sorted by category for easy browsing. Fiction titles for all ages! CD and DVD selections as well. Bag sale (on selected items) starts at 1 pm.

World Quizzing Championships
The World Quizzing Championships have been held annually since 2003 and take place in over 100 cities in about 40 countries around the world. The quiz is a written test taken on the same day everywhere, consisting of 240 challenging questions across a wide variety of culturally-diverse subjects. The Media Lab at Central Library is a free space to explore digital media production in the realms of stop motion animation, 3D world design, green screen video, audio design and graphic design. Drop in and explore the lab or work on projects with the expertise of our media lab staff.

Book Discussion: Fire Road by Kim Phuc Phan Thi
Join us for a discussion of Fire Road: The Napalm Girl's Journey through the Horrors of War to Faith, Forgiveness and Peace by Kim Phuc Phan Thi. The discussion will be led by Thuỷ Phạm-Remmele, educator and founder of MMSD's "Meet the Authors". Also joining the discussion will be special guest Phương Liên Nguyễn, survivor of the 1954 Exodus from the North, the Tết Offensive, and escape by boat during the fall of South Việt Nam in April 1975.

Author Lesley Kagen headlines the Friends of the Madison Public Library annual meeting. Stop in at 5:30pm to join the Friends at the door, participate in the annual meeting & volunteer recognition dinner, and stay for Lesley Kagen's presentation -OR- just come to the public author event at 7pm.
Lesley Kagen grew up in Milwaukee and attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Her novels are often written from the viewpoints of children or young narrators. Common themes in her novels, which are set in the 1950s and 1960s, include: dealing with loss, family, mystery, discovering the truth, inner-workings of a community, sibling bonds, childlike perception, innocence and corruption. Her first book, Whistling in the Dark, 2007, which takes place in a Milwaukee neighborhood, made the New York Times Best Seller list. Her most recent novel is The Mutual Admiration Society, published in 2017. The novel "illuminates the sweet and brittle bonds of family, the tenderness of growing up, the heartbreak of longing for what we've lost, and the poignancy of finding love."
