Fifth Friday--Poetry Reading featuring James Roberts and Marilyn Taylor

Meeting Room
Friday, May 31, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Alicia Ashman Library hosts a poetry reading every time there's a fifth Friday.
In May, join James Roberts and Marilyn Taylor, poets and editors of the newly published Love Affairs at the Villa Nelle. They'll read from the book, share some poetry, and then host a poetry open mic. You'll also have the chance to purchase your own copy of Love Affairs and have it signed. So come to listen; come to read; come to celebrate poetry!

Marilyn L. Taylor, former Poet Laureate of Wisconsin, has published six poetry collections, most recently Step on a Crack (Kelsay Books, 2016). Her work has also appeared in Poetry, Measure, Light, and the Knopf Everyman's Anthology, titled Villanelles. She has been awarded the international Margaret Reid Poetry Prize, and was a finalist for the X.J. Kennedy Parody Contest, the Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award, and the Lascaux Review Prize. She also co-edited the recent anthology titled Love Affairs at the Villa Nelle (Kelsay Books, 2018).

James P. Roberts is the author of 15 books of fantasy and science fiction, poetry, literary biography and baseball history. He is a regional Vice-President for the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and has for the past ten years organized and hosted the annual Winter Festival of Poetry. James is also much involved with the Little Free Library movement and has been featured on Wisconsin Public Television and on the front page of the Wisconsin State Journal talking about Little Free Libraries.

Postponed: Prince Avalanche (feature film)
2013 / USA / Comedy, Drama / 94 min. / R
An odd couple of sorts, introspective and stern Alvin (Paul Rudd) and his girlfriend’s brother, Lance (Ernie Hirsch), dopey and insecure, leave the city behind to spend the summer of 1988 repainting the traffic lines on a desolate country highway where the surrounding areas have been ravaged by wildfire. In this solitary backdrop, the two bicker and joke with each other as they reflect on their relationships with women, resulting in a clumsy fall headfirst into an unlikely friendship.
