LEGO Art - Building Robots

Community Room
Fri, 01/18/2019 - 10:00am to 12:00pm

Join us for LEGO robot building, inspired by internationally-known LEGO artist Sean Kenney. We will provide a copy of Kenney's book, Building Amazing Creations, to view his robot creations for inspiration. While many of his sculptures are large and extremely complex, his robot creations are accessible for children to draw ideas from or even recreate with common LEGO pieces. All LEGOS will be provided. Though they can't be taken home, we can create a photo gallery of everyone's creations! For those who would prefer drawing or coloring instead of building, there will also be LEGO coloring sheets provided and a transformer/robot drawing station. We will have many DUPLOS available for younger kiddos to build with, also. This is a CIRCLE Homeschool Learning Cooperative event, but anyone is welcome to join. You can learn more about CIRCLE (Children in a Respectful Cooperative Learning Environment) here: https://circlehomeschool.wordpress.com/find-a-circle-group/madison-circle/. For children ages 5 & up (younger siblings welcome).

It is spring, the season of great changes. Hikari Kohinata is an overwhelmingly cheerful and outgoing 15-year-old girl who has spent all her life in a small and beautiful seaside town on the Izu peninsula. On the first day of high school, she meets Futaba Oki, a slightly introverted girl who has just moved from Tokyo. Before she knows it, Futaba gets dragged along into Hikari's passion for scuba diving. And from there, Futaba gradually starts to come out of her shell, and learns how to take challenges and dive into the ocean of life.

The Hawthorne Anime Club was created to give people a place to gather, watch, and talk about Japanese animation. Each meeting will include screenings of everything from classic titles to new releases. The club is aimed primarily at teens and adults. Films are shown in Japanese with English subtitles. Refreshments served at each meeting.

Call ahead to reserve your spot! People under age 16 who are interested in attending are required to have a parent present or to have a signed parental permission slip.
