Living Fully Mindfully

Living Fully Mindfully

Meeting Room B
Mon, 10/22/2018 - 1:30pm to 3:00pm

Mindfulness is more than just meditation. It is learning to live in the present, instead of rehashing the past or worrying about the future. It is popping out of autopilot and becoming aware of our thoughts. We have greater balance, control and fuller participation in life when we are in control of our thoughts.

In this class, learn how mindfulness can help you increase your attention span and amplify your focus, become master of your thoughts, respond rather than react to challenging situations, and increase your curiosity to improve your listening skills.

Plastics in the Great Lakes

Plastics in the Great Lakes

Meeting Rooms A & B Combined
Mon, 10/22/2018 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Marine debris is defined as any persistent solid material that is disposed or abandoned in the marine
environment or the Great Lakes. It is a global problem – there is no part of the world left untouched by debris
and its impacts. Marine debris is a threat to our environment, navigation safety, the economy, and human
health. One type of marine debris of particular concern – plastics – is among the most common type and can
be a serious threat to the biota of the water body. The good news is we can all reduce significantly our
generation of plastic marine debris. Come hear an introduction to the science of plastics in our Great Lakes
and share ways you can prevent it. Presented by Anne Moser of the Wisconsin Water Library at the UW Madison Aquatic Sciences Center.
