Photoshop - everyone knows what it is, but not everyone knows how to use it. In this 3-day series, teens will work with a media industry professional to learn many of the amazing things Photoshop is capable of doing. From painting lifelike portraits, to putting Lady GaGa in your vacation photos, attendees will gain a deep understanding of digital creation as well as photo manipulation and digital editing.

Registration and attendance is required for all three days of this camp (July 24, 25 & 26). Snacks will be served during break time but please bring diet-friendly snacks if needed!

Eating Smart-Being Active offers research-based information about nutrition, food safety and spending your food dollars wisely. It is a FREE program provided by the University of Wisconsin Extension Food WIse. Lessons focus on simple messages related to food and nutrition and give participants a chance to apply new information through interactive activities. Requires households to have children/grandchildren 18 years of age and under.

Food will be made for sample tasting at each class!

Madison Writing Assistance: General and Job-Related Writing Help

Free one-on-one coaching sessions for writing projects of any kind, including resumes and cover letters, school assignments, personal letters, applications, forms, newsletters, articles, memoirs, poems or any other kind of writing. Basic computer help, such as setting up email accounts, searching for jobs online, or filling out online job applications, is also available.

Madison Writing Assistance is a free service provided by the UW-Madison Writing Center and is made possible through the generous support of The Evjue Foundation, the UW Anonymous Fund, Altrusa International of Madison, and the UW-Madison Writing Center.

West Wild Rumpus: An Anji Play experience

This program takes place at Haen Family Park (7702 Tree Ln). No program on July 4.

Enjoy play-centered, child led activities in the park each week, based on the educational approach of Anji Play. The library will provide special play equipment to spark your children's imagination. At the end of each event, kids will create a Play Story, drawing and/or writing about their play for that day. Wear messy clothes, bring a water bottle, (optional) bring a picnic dinner or purchase a meal from the "Let's Eat Out" local food carts, and make an evening of it!​ This event is created in partnership with the Madison Parks Division and AnjiPlay, and funded in part by a grant from the Madison Public Library Foundation.

Liz Sexe is a dance educator, performer and choreographer/artistic director of Liz Sexe Dance Company, established in 2014. In her processes, tasks inspire poetic movement, game theory finds logical, yet often unexpected phrasing, and athletic dancing is paired with deep intentionality. She also performs both regionally and nationally with Li Chiao-Ping Dance Company, Marlene Skog and Dancers and works with many local choreographers curating work.

Take in the majestic palaces and museums of St. Petersburg and Moscow, gaze into the endless expanse of Siberian grasslands and forests, ride Bactrian camels up stunning Gobi sand dunes for a taste of the nomadic lifestyle, and stroll the ancient and modern streets of China's sprawling capital, perhaps finishing with a trip to the Great Wall.

Join Dan Perry and Katie Lepak as they discuss one of the world's great train journeys, including when to go, how to cut through the red tape of obtaining a Russian visa, and how to travel this awe-inspiring route on a small(ish) budget.

We'll discuss Lab Girl by Hope Jahren. You don’t need to love science to love this beautifully written memoir of a scientist who grew up in Minnesota: how she developed a love of trees and plants, early lab experiences, ongoing struggles to get research funding, battles with anxiety and depression, her longtime friendship with lab partner Bill. Copies of the book are available at the library.
