Apply to be a Volunteer Today!
Print out our student application form and mail it to:
Central Library
ATTN: C. Sawyer
201 W. Mifflin St.
Madison WI 53703
Or bring it in to any Madison library and someone will contact you regarding your interests.
The Library welcomes mature teens interested in volunteering as part of a graduation requirement, to fulfill requirements for the National Honor Society, to find out more about what it's like to work in a library or as an opportunity to give back to their community.
Student volunteers gain valuable work experience while giving back to their community. A volunteer experience is an excellent way for students to learn about library work and to find out about possible future employment opportunities in the field of library science.
We ask for a commitment of at least 10 hours as well as a willingness to work within the specific guidelines provided by and discussed with library staff. In return, students will be given an opportunity to work behind the scenes in vital community organizations, learning some of the many activities which libraries perform. Our expectations about attendance, punctuality, responsibility and accuracy of work are the same as with adult volunteers.
Volunteers under the age of 16 must have their parent or guardian's permission before they can volunteer.
Volunteer opportunities vary from library to library. Fill out the Student Volunteer Application and mail it or bring it to the Volunteer Coordinator (address above) or your nearest library to find out what opportunities are available.
