Donate Your Time to the Library: Volunteer!

Do you have a special skill, an open heart, a love of teaching? Do you have enthusiasm and a willingness to give others the gift of a public library experience all their own? Contribute your skills and enthusiasm to Madison Public Library!

If libraries have made a difference in your life, consider giving back a world of opportunity to people in your own community. Madison Public Library has many volunteer positions -- from helping out during children's events to indexing newspapers and watering plants -- all of which contribute to the library's ability to provide Madisonians of all walks of life a place to "explore, discover, learn, grow and dream."

Madison is a rich and vital community, but every community needs bridges. Library volunteers are crucial bridge builders. They bring the warmth of a book to an older adult who can't leave his home on a cold night. They make stories come to life for the waves of new readers participating in a summer library program. They positively contribute to their neighborhood's development through raising funds at book sales and benefits, thus improving their library branch. Madison is a diverse community with diverse needs -- and that means we need bridge builders of all backgrounds to make connections. Please consider being a Madison Public Library volunteer or Friends group volunteer. Even if you're not sure just how you can help, contact us. Our staff can help you find the volunteer experience that is a perfect fit for you.

Tory, a library volunteer for 8 years, chooses books
which will be delivered to area customers who are
unable to make the trip to the library.

See a listing of volunteer positions we currently offer. The Friends of Madison Public Library has many volunteer opportunities as well, including working at book sales and at the book shop.
