Central Library

Free assistance from VITA volunteers to help you fill out and file your Federal and Wisconsin personal income taxes. Call 266-6350 to make an appointment (required). Some situations are outside the scope of the service-- ask if in doubt. You must have lived in Wisconsin for ALL of 2016 to use this service.
**We will begin taking appointments on January 18th for the 1/28 and 2/11 tax help dates. We will take appointments for the rest of the dates (2/25, 3/11, 3/25, 4/8) on February 6th.**

REQUIRED by the IRS: An actual (no xeroxes) social security card OR medicare card OR VA medical card for you, your spouse (if a joint return is filed) and all dependents are required to use the VITA tax filing service.​ If needed, access information on getting a replacement social security card before scheduling a tax filing appointment. You must fill out a form and either take it to the Madison Social Security office or mail it there so that you'll have it in time for your appointment.

Lakeview Library

By appointment only. Free assistance from VITA volunteers to help you fill out and file your Wisconsin and Federal personal income taxes. Call 246-4547 to reserve a half-hour appointment.

Sequoya Library

Appointment required. Please call 266-6385 to set up an appointment. Free service is geared toward people 60+ with low or moderate incomes, but all are welcome. Details on which types of returns qualify can be found on the Department of Revenue web site.

Financial Education Center (near Goodman South)

The Financial Education Center in The Villager, 2300 S Park St, Ste 101, (next to our Goodman South Madison Library) offers free assistance from VITA volunteers to help you file your Federal and Wisconsin personal income taxes. Walk-ins only. Hours begin January 27, last session is April 16. For more information, please call the Financial Education Center directly at 283-1261, 224-3722, or read their brochure.
