Genealogy Resources at the Library

Wisconsin Historical Society

Madison Public Library offers some local genealogy resources, but serious researchers will find many more resources at the Wisconsin Historical Society.

In addition, the library subscribes to two databases for genealogists:

AncestryLibraryAncestry Library
Search AncestryLibrary for access to genealogy information in more than 4,000 databases, including census data, passenger lists, the Social Security Death Index, and much more. This database is only available within the library. [Help with login problems] [Search Tips]

HeritageQuestHeritageQuest
HeritageQuest provides access to genealogy records and books, including census data, local histories, tax rolls, cemetery lists, military rosters, and more. This database is available inside the library, or outside the library with a valid Madison or South Central Library System library card. [Help with login problems] [Search Tips]
