Have you noticed titles in LINKcat with “electronic book” in the record? NetLibrary provides access to the South Central Library System’s eContent collection. eContent is the digital version of books, journals, and database content. You can access your library’s eContent 24 hours a days, seven days a week .

What is NetLibrary?

NetLibrary provides access to digital books, journals and database content. These are digital full-text versions of books such as reference works, scholarly monographs, literature and fiction, and 3,400 publicly-accessible titles. All books are fully searchable by key words and electronic books include many enhancements, such as interactive indexes, a built-in dictionary, and limited ability to cut and paste text. For those who have a hard time reading the computer screen, type size of the book can be easily adjusted to a larger size.

How do I access NetLibrary?

Anyone with a LINK library card and access to the Internet can use NetLibrary. Access the database here or follow the link to the Online Databases page in LINKcat.

What can I use NetLibrary for?

You are able to search and view the full text of all the eBooks in the library's eBook collection. All eBooks are available to preview and read online in 15-minutes increments. If you continue to be active in reading the title (turning pages, navigating, taking notes, searching) you will continue to have access.  If you are not actively viewing the eContent (turning pages, searching, etc.), it returns to the library for someone else to view.

How do I save or print records?

You can save information to “My List and Notes”once you have created a free account. You can keep track of titles you would like to view, titles that you have already read or add a Note to a page in full-text eContent in the online reader. This allows you to quickly view/listen to the title again and see any full-text eContent notes you have for a title. You can also refer to the “My List and Notes” tip window if you have other questions. When you are viewing eBooks, the Acrobat tool bar that pops up allows you to save, print or email the text you are viewing.

Note that using NetLibrary online requires version 4.0 or higher of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Optimal browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or Netscape Navigator 4.7 or 4.08.

The service is made possible by the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium, an organization of over 125 public libraries around the state, with a grant from the Wisconsin Advanced Telecommunications Foundation.
