Effective immediately, all “My Lists” will be saved for 365 days instead of 90 days. This means that you can continue to access your “My List” in LINKcat for 365 days from the last day that the list was accessed. The limit of 100 items per “My List” has not changed. For more information on using “My List,” see the My List online brochure.
All Madison Public Library locations are closed for the Christmas holiday on Monday, December 31 and Tuesday, January 1. The Central Library will also be closed Sunday, December 30. You can still use the library when we’re closed: place holds in LINKcat**, return items to our bookdrops, or use our 24/7 online reference service, AskAway.
**From 10:35 p.m. Monday, December 31st until approximately 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1st, 2008, LINKcat will be down for maintenance. This maintenance is required to keep the library’s catalog system operating at an optimal level. We apologize for the inconvenience, and wish you a happy holiday season.
You know you can request titles via LINKcat and have them delivered from any public library in a seven-county area. In library jargon, that’s called placing a hold. But you can also request that we borrow materials that aren’t in LINKcat, a service the library calls interlibrary loan.
We rely on the generosity of libraries around the state and across the nation to fill these requests for us. Many of those libraries are academic, and they often are closed through the holidays. Because of this, any interlibrary loan requests received between December 23, 2007, and January 2, 2008 will be processed beginning January 3, 2008.
Many libraries are reporting that email notices to Verizon customers have recently been bouncing due to Verizon’s antispam solution.
If your email ends in verizon.net and you haven’t been getting notices about available holds, you may wish to request that we send your notices via a telephone message or a letter until the problem has been resolved. When the problem is resolved, we’ll post information here.
A reminder to everyone who receives email notices from us - if you or your email provider uses spam protection, please configure your email to accept email from the scls.lib.wi.us domain.
From 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, December 25th until 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26th, LINKcat will be down for maintenance. LINKcat will be down again from 10:35 p.m. Monday, December 31st until approximately 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1st, 2008. This maintenance is required to keep the library’s catalog system operating at an optimal level. We apologize for the inconvenience, and wish you a happy holiday season.
John Mellencamp and Madonna are two of the latest inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Find their music CDs, as well as thousands of other music CDs at the library.
It’s Horror Week at the State Historical Museum, just down the street from the Central Library (at 30 N. Carroll St. on the Capitol Square). During “Horror Week,” classic films are shown daily, with this year’s movies having a science fiction theme.
If you are in the mood for more thrills and chills, the library has many horror books available to check out. Our horror booklist includes novels and classics, Edgar Allen Poe winners and collections and stories.
Planning a trip? The library has travel books, DVDs, travel magazines, even laminated maps. We purchase copies of many guidebooks on a yearly basis, so save the money you’d spend on a few new books and put it toward your trip instead!
To limit your library catalog search to travel guides, choose Basic Searches, then Subject Key Words then type the name of the country or major city and the word “travel” (for example “spain travel”). For DVDs or videos, choose Format search, then Video Key Word, then type the name of the country or major city and the word “travel”.
You can check your library account online, from your home, office or school with your library card. Manage your library record, renew books online, or place holds on items to be delivered to whichever library pick-up location is convenient. You can start by clicking on the “My Account” tab from the top bar of the LINKcat catalog, then type in your library barcode number and PIN. Click “Login” and you will be on your way.
Request library materials and have them delivered to a library near you! With your library card, you can place holds on library materials via the LINKcat catalog or by calling any of the Madison Public Library locations and the items you want will arrive at the library where you want to pick them up as soon as they become available.
You can also manage your list of hold items this way - activate holds or save them for later, and cancel holds on items you no longer need to check out.
