Spring Cleaning? Donate Your Used Children’s Books

Alicia

The City of Madison’s Women’s Issues Committee is sponsoring a book drive for all children throughout Madison who are participating in the City’s Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Program on April 23rd. Please donate your gently used children’s books by April 17th by dropping them off at the Madison Public Library Central Branch, the Transportation Department (Madison Municipal Building, 215 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Rm. 100), the City Clerk’s Office (210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.), or at the Monona Terrace (1 John Nolen Drive). Books should be in usable condition, and will be distributed to ages 8-18 at the April 23 Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day event. Leftover books will be donated to the Madison Public Library.

The Ms. Foundation for Women started Take Our Daughters to Work Day in 1993. Originally, this program asked employees to invite teenage girls to spend the day with the employee at his or her workplace, for the expressed purpose of exposing girls to various career opportunities. In 2003, the program was opened to young boys as well, allowing for children of both genders to benefit from this day of combating gender stereotypes, and creating opportunities for all children to envision a better future and to think and dream imaginatively about their families, their careers and their communities. For more information, visit the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day website.
